MMA is back at BankUnited Center on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables Friday as hometown YouTube sensation Rene 'Level' Martinez takes on Charles Champion in his second fight as a pro. Martinez made his debut at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino winning a three-round unanimous decision over Bounmy Somchay. It was a hard fought win for the fighter used to taking out opponents with a single punch.  

The Barry Bucs (1-0) got out to a 9-0 lead as Willie Whitfield, Marvin Davis, Zach Trapp and Tony Dennison chipped in for the points. The Lions (0-3) fought back, going on a 13-8 run to go down 17-13. The Bucs finished the first half strong, scoring 17 more points including two three pointers by Evan White.  

In its first full quarter since buying a failed bank, Miami Lakes-based BankUnited reported net income of $79.3 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, making it the most profitable bank in South Florida, according to data from the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. The bank earned $37.6 million from May 22 – when it assumed the assets of the failed BankUnited FSB – through June 30. BankUnited CEO John Kanas told members of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce during a luncheon Tuesday that they should expect a big deal by his bank in the next week.
